nightly dinner battle
Well, I wish the quality of picture was better but this is Jack sitting at the table. Notice he is alone. Yeah, everyone else in our family finished like days ago. Don't let the fork in his mouth fool you. He is just tormenting me and teasing me. That fork is still as clean as when it came out of the drawer. There will be no food on that fork for at least an hour from when this picture was taken. This is our almost every night ritual. I am sticking to my guns though and making him stay at the table until he eats what I have asked him to. Usually just one or two of each thing on his plate. I am just hoping it gets better. That kid is so strong willed. Tonight's time was about 1 hour 50 minutes until he finally ate his cold little morsels of food. Then he high fived me and ran up to his room to start the nightly dance party.
If any of my 3 followers (oh darn, I am one and my huband is another,,,, there is no hope for us) have any helpful ideas or funny way they got their scary underweight, stubborn kid to eat please share. Those chairs are starting to hurt my butt.

IDK with this one, without knowing what you've tried it's hard to suggest. I do know that once your old enough to get what "if you don't eat you will be going to bed hungry" means then that's what happens no matter what.. I know I wouldn't cater to his schedule like that. I'd tell him he has 20min(from the time you finished) and set the timer and if it goes off and he hasn't eaten then oh well he's done no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI've also found that whenever possible to use animal shape cookie cutters(you can get a big tub at meijer for about 8 bucks)ALL of my kids will eat whatever I make if in an animal shape.
Then to make yourself feel better get some of those chocolate or vanilla boost drinks and he can have a glass before bed :)
Good ideas Janet. I was never clear about if I should let him sit at the table as long as it took or what? I just saw a Supernanny thing where they were having the same problem and I am going to try giving him a half hour limit and then he gets nothing else and doesn't get to participate in whatever we are doing that night. Such a struggle for me because I want to follow through but I don't want to make food such an issue for him. Grrr
